  Darkenwald Recipient of Prestigious Boren Award Scholarship funds language program and study abroad experience in Tanzania WILBERFORCE, OH - Danielle Darkenwald, a junior History major with a minor in International Languages is Central State University’s first Boren Award recipient.  Darkenwald has earned and received many achievements and awards, including the Upper Classman Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship, honors certificates (2021 & 2022), excellence in Arabic Languages and cultures award, and outstanding scholar in Pre-law award. She has been a Dayton Urban Young Life Mentor; a part of the NAACP; a council student representative for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI); a member of the Pre-Law Society; an Honors Student at CSU since freshman year, maintaining a 4.0 every academic year; and has completed internships at the American Red Cross, Cleveland Municipal Court, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame .    Her application for the Boren Scholarship began after she met

Myaa Greene Selected as Cornell University Food Science Summer Scholar Intern

  WILBERFORCE, OH -  Myaa Greene was accepted into an Ivy League university (Cornell) as a 2022 Food Science Summer Scholar Intern. The program is composed of like-minded students who will have the opportunity to work on a research project that relates to food and science.  Of this opportunity, Greene said, "The thing about which I am most excited is how I will live in New York for the summer. I always envisioned myself living there. God has really given me two dreams in one–being in New York and interning to further develop my future career path at an Ivy League University." Greene is an honors student, a full-ride USDA scholar,  a dancing Belle, and a mentor. She also served as Miss Sophomore for the 2021-2022 academic school year.  With distinct career goals in mind, Greene plans to graduate with a degree in Exercise Science, attend graduate school to obtain her master's degree in food science, become a sports nutritionist or pursue a career in the food science field.

Rashon Barksdale Admitted to the Graduate School of Syracuse University WILBERFORCE, OH - Central State University graduating honors scholar Rashon Barksdale has been admitted to the Graduate School of Syracuse University. The faculty in Television, Radio and Film admitted Barksdale for Summer 2022 as a Master of Arts student.  Newhouse’s television, radio and film program gives students the skills they need to be part of the creative, management and production processes of the television, radio, film and online entertainment industries. Of his time at Central State University, Barksdale said, "I had my ups and downs, pain and pleasure. Through it all, I loved every bit of the journey." Kayla Smith Named Winner of Barry Goldwater Scholarship

  Kayla Smith Named Winner of Barry Goldwater Scholarship Award Recognizes Undergraduate Research WILBERFORCE, OH - Central State University junior Kayla Smith, an environmental engineering major from Cincinnati, Ohio has been named a winner in the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. Smith is also a student in CSU’s Honors College, a founding member of the Philosophy Club, and the Parliamentarian for the National Society of Black Engineers, among other activities. Further, she is a WAVE Fellow at the California Institute of Technology and a mentor for the Penn State EnvironMentors Program. She is the first student to win the Goldwater Scholarship at Central State University. Smith is one of only 12 college students in Ohio named a recipient of this prestigious national scholarship, and one of only 5 students from Ohio public higher education institutions.
