Jeremy Jackson - Presidential Scholar and Strada Presidential Leadership Scholar

WILBERFORCE, OH - Central State University sophomore honors student Jeremy Jackson is a Manufacturing Engineering major from Baltimore, Maryland.  He is a CSU Presidential Scholar, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, CSU’s Student Researcher of the Year, a Honda Campus All Star Competition participant, President of the Honors College Student Association, and is on the Dean’s List. Most recently, he was selected to participate in the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Funds’ 2022 Leadership Institute. Jackson is also a STRADA Presidential Leadership Scholarship recipient.

Funded by the Strada Education Network, the Strada Presidential Leadership Scholarship focuses on investment in the next generation of leaders. Through this scholarship program, recipients are provided leadership development, academic support, internship funding, and critical social engagement resulting in positive postsecondary learning opportunities that lead to meaningful career pathways for Strada Scholars. Strada recognizes the importance of HBCUs in providing economic and social mobility to America’s next generation of leaders and undertakes this Initiative to provide institutional and systemic improvements for the participating institutions and the students they serve.

Currently, as he works toward earning his degree, he is completing an internship with the Wright Patt Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. He plans to eventually get his Masters in Robotics or Mechanical Engineering.

Jeremy Jackson said he chose CSU “because it felt like the right place for me to be...like where I was supposed to be.” He originally had plans to attend another university, but after meeting the Executive Director of the Honors College & International Affairs, Dr. Paul Schlag, and connecting with faculty members and the Chair of Engineering, he knew “during the middle of that call that CSU is where I was going to go.” He is thankful that the Honors Executive Director and several professors were willing to take time to meet with him and tell him about the engineering program and the Honors College. He felt it “meant that I would be going to a place where the faculty and staff believe in mentoring students” and he has always thrived in that type of academic situation.

Dr. Paul A. Schlag said, “Jeremy Jackson is the ultimate student scholar in terms of research, academics, service and leadership. He has a vision and leads out to make things happen to achieve that vision.” He continued, “As one of CSU’s top students, Jeremy is setting the standard for what it means to be a Marauder and laying a foundation for future success for CSU’s honors students. The sky is the limit as to what he will accomplish and we cannot wait to see what he does to change the world.”

Ms. Wendy Hayes, University Liaison for Honors and International Student Affairs and Advisor for the Honors College Student Association, said that “As an incoming freshman to the Honors College, Jeremy demonstrated poise, leadership abilities, with radar focus on creating opportunities to influence decisions that would impact the experiences of himself and his peers.  As the inaugural president of the Honors Student Association (HSA), his self-motivation and maturity paired with a strong work ethic will ensure he achieves most, if not all of his aspirations for the HSA.  Jeremy is demonstrating the model behavior that others who will follow him will emulate.”

Mrs. Sarah Armstrong-Jones, Manager of the Honors College, stated that in her work with Jeremy Jackson on the Honors College Student Association and Honda Campus All-Star Competition team, she found him to be “smart, hardworking, and a pleasure to be around.” She says, “Jeremy Jackson is a young man who is definitely going places!”

An interesting fact about Jeremy Jackson is that he is one of four brothers, and all their names start with “J.” The brothers are the fourth generation of family members on his mother’s side who have first names that begin with that letter!

Mr. Jackson would like to thank his parents for helping him to get where he is today. He said, “My parents have always supported my curiosity about engineering and have always told me to dream big dreams and work hard to make those dreams come true.”
